Sandals Royal Bahamian

5/11/2012 12:05:52 PM

We had the opportunity for a quick weekend getaway to Nassau, Bahamas. While Nassau is not one of my favorite island destinations, the flight is non-stop from Baltimore and only a little over two hours, making it a great choice for a three or four night vacation. Also, the transfer time from the airport to the hotels is about 15 minutes. On the return, you clear US Customs at Nassau Airport eliminating the long lines in Baltimore.Nassau offers several resorts that are vastly different.Breezes, Bahamas is a moderate all-inclusive resort located on Cable Beach within walking distance of casinos catering to teens 14+ years and adults.

Of course there is the huge and famous Atlantis on Paradise Island offering many different room types and endless activities. A truly unique resort but very, very expensive. There are a number of other hotels located on Cable Beach and downtown Nassau, but we feel they are overpriced for what you get. Not all-inclusive and dining, drinks can be extremely expensive.

If you are an adult couple looking for a quality all-inclusive in Nassau, Cable Beach, Sandals Royal Bahamian & Spa Resort and Offshore Island is the very best choice. This is our first time at this resort in over 10 years and they have made some very positive changes.Sandals has added an entire new section called the Balmoral section with full ocean-views. Many of the older rooms have been newly renovated and are spacious and bright. Our favorite at Sandals Royal Bahamian is the private out island owned by Sandals.Feels like Gilligan’s island, only with swim up pool bar, restaurant and beach palapas. There is a beach butler for guests booked in Butler category. The boat runs from the pier to the island every hour. We took the first boat out and the last one back every day. There are quite a few excellent restaurants on the property, but difficult to make reservations at specific restaurants.Very necessary to book reservations prior to arrival or the minute you arrive at the resort. Just by chance, we booked dinner reservations at Gordon’s on the pier the night of the “Super Moon” and it was an amazing back drop for an excellent dinner.Since we have already been to the “famous Nassau straw market” and downtown shopping experience we stayed at the resort and enjoyed all the facilities at the resort.

While not the same atmosphere as other Caribbean Islands, we had a great experience and would recommend Nassau for a short stay.
